“Pit to Plate” to partner: the Q39 story
October 1, 2026

Every restaurant has its own origin story.  Some are “meh,” some are best experienced with the mind rather than the mouth (if you get my drift), but others are truly the unsung heroes fighting an endless war against the banality of bland commercialism and questionable taste.  Formidable enemies indeed.  Doctor Doom himself would tremble in fear.

Q39 is one of these heroes of the foodie world, delivering a ka-pow of crispy, smoky flavor to unsuspecting taste buds.  At the center of this origin story is a man some know as… Andrew Knessey, chief brand officer of Q39… and possibly a super-suited vigilante protecting the weak in the night against a cold, uncaring world.  We don’t know….

Named for the “Q” in BBQ and 39th Street in Overland Park where the restaurant opened, Q39 was created by founder Rob Magee, a classically trained chef “who fell in love with competition barbecue when he moved to Kansas City,” says Knessey.  “After competing on the barbecue circuit for 10 years, he decided to open a restaurant [called] Pit to Plate . . . [with an] elevated service and beverage program.”

Q39 has been a steadfast partner of The Golden Scoop since 2025. Andrew Knessey met Amber Schreiber, owner and co-founder of The Golden Scoop, during his time working at Sysco Foods.   “I feel it’s a great partnership especially pairing two strong businesswomen in [Lindsay] and Amber,” Knessey said.

Q39 deeply values the relationship they have forged with The Golden Scoop, with Knessey saying, “We are supporting the golf tournament for the 2nd year this year and will continue to support the Golden Scoop  . . .  I think what you are doing is amazing and hopefully our ice cream partnership will continue to draw attention to your great organization.”

The Golden Scoop is very proud to have Q39 as a business partner and ally for people with unique abilities.  We hope our fantastic relationship continues for many years to come.  Oh, and if you didn’t know, Q39 serves our ice cream on their menu, so stop by and enjoy a little Golden Scoop goodness alongside that barbeque!
