Today is Thanksgiving! The table is loaded with green beans, stuffing, turkey, ham, and mashed potatoes (or as my sister tries to fruitlessly convince my two-year old niece Ruby, “ice cream.” The look of skepticism on Ruby’s face is truly hilarious; she knows ice cream doesn’t have gravy on it). The smell of pumpkin pie wafts tantalizingly from the kitchen for later.
My family is in large part Swedish and German, so we slip in a few special foods alongside the traditional favorites! Sweet and tart lingonberry sauce, Knäckebröd (Swedish crispbread) crackers spread with a sharp cheese, hearty potato-sausages with cream gravy, and rice pudding with more lingonberry sauce for dessert (along with the classic pumpkin and fruit pies, obviously). Even if you’re not half-Swedish/German, try these out if you get the chance!
This year, I even snagged a pumpkin-cream cheese pie from none other than The Golden Scoop itself! I also picked up some Charlie’s Chocolate and some of our new Cookie Line Dance, which is basically our cookies-n-cream ice cream with added cookie dough pieces! So I think we’re set for dessert!
We at The Golden Scoop hope everyone has a fun and safe Thanksgiving today! Sit down, relax, and get ready to have some good food! Oh, and talk to your relatives, they like that sort of thing.
